Understand your credit and work toward a stronger profile

Improving your credit starts with understanding what is actually on your reports.

Alemay Business reviews your credit profile, explains what appears on your reports, helps identify possible inconsistencies and works with you on an action plan. When appropriate, we may help prepare documentation or communications related to legitimate disputes. Certain personal verifications, calls or consumer actions must be completed directly by the consumer, with our guidance. When a matter requires authority or a professional outside Alemay’s direct scope, we coordinate the appropriate professional or partner.

Some issues may involve inaccurate or incomplete information. Others simply reflect legitimate negative history or habits that need time and consistent management.

What's holding your credit back?

These are common situations among the people who come to us in Miami and South Florida to review their credit reports.

  • You are not sure why your score went down
  • Your credit card balances are high
  • Late payments are showing on your history
  • You have accounts in collections
  • There are accounts you do not recognize
  • Balances or credit limits look incorrect
  • There are inquiries you need to review
  • You have few accounts or a limited credit history
  • You closed accounts and do not know how that affected you
  • You have applied for credit several times in a row
  • You want to review your profile before applying for financing
  • You simply do not know where to start

No two credit profiles have the same issue. That is why the first step is understanding your situation before deciding which actions make sense.

Your credit score is only part of the story

A credit review should not stop at a single number. A score summarizes information from your credit profile, but the details in your reports provide the context: which accounts appear, how they are reported and how they relate to one another.

Depending on the information available, the analysis can cover the following.

  • Open accounts and their current status
  • Reported payment history
  • Balances reported by each creditor
  • Available credit limits
  • Revolving credit utilization
  • Age of the accounts
  • Accounts in collections
  • Closed accounts and how they are reported
  • Inquiries appearing on the report
  • Personal identifying information as reported
  • Possible inconsistencies or errors
  • The overall structure of the profile
  • Factors that may influence the score under the model being used

Scoring models can vary, and different creditors may use different scores or criteria. Alemay Business does not control how a financial institution calculates your score or how it evaluates an application.

A credit strategy should start with clear expectations

We believe in being clear from the start about what we can help with and what we cannot promise. That clarity is part of the service.

What we can help with

Depending on your case and the information available:

  • Help you understand what your credit reports actually say
  • Identify information that deserves a closer review
  • Spot possible inconsistencies between what is reported and your documentation
  • Help you organize priorities based on your situation
  • Explain the factors that may be affecting your profile
  • Work with you on a strategy for how you use credit going forward
  • Follow up with you as changes appear on the reports
  • Help prepare documentation or communications related to legitimate disputes of information that may be inaccurate or incomplete, when appropriate
  • Guide you through any personal verifications, calls or consumer actions that must be completed directly with the credit bureaus or furnishers
  • Coordinate the appropriate professional or partner when a matter requires authority or expertise outside Alemay’s direct scope

What we do not promise

No one can responsibly commit to any of the following:

  • Removing accurate information simply because it is negative
  • Increasing your score by a specific number of points
  • Reaching a specific credit score
  • Guaranteeing approval for any financial product
  • Guaranteeing the deletion of accounts from your report
  • Guaranteeing results by a specific date

Negative doesn't automatically mean inaccurate

An item can hurt your credit and still be reported correctly. That distinction is essential when deciding what to do next.

Negative information reported accurately

Accurate negative information generally cannot be removed simply because it is negative. When the information is being reported correctly, the focus shifts to managing the rest of the profile and making informed decisions going forward.

Information that may be inaccurate or incomplete

Data you believe is incorrect, incomplete, duplicated, not yours or otherwise inconsistent. There may be grounds to review it and determine whether a legitimate dispute is warranted.

You have the right to dispute information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete directly with the credit bureaus and the companies furnishing that information, at no cost. A dispute triggers a review process; it does not guarantee that information will be changed or removed.

Our process

A structured process based on your starting point and your goals. Timing varies depending on the circumstances of each case.

  1. Profile review

We go over your situation, your goals and the credit information available.

  2. Analysis

We identify the factors that need attention, the priorities and any possible inconsistencies in what is being reported.

  3. Action plan

Together we define the steps that make sense in your case: education, organization, managing utilization and, when appropriate, help preparing documentation or communications related to legitimate disputes. Certain personal verifications, calls or consumer actions must be completed directly by you, with our guidance.

  4. Follow-up

We review changes and new information, and adjust the next steps when that becomes necessary.

Information we may need

This is a general reference — what is actually needed depends on your case and on what you want to review.

  • Valid identification
  • Any credit report you already have available
  • Information on the accounts you want to review
  • Letters or correspondence you have received
  • Details about accounts you do not recognize
  • Statements, when they are relevant
  • Documents related to possible inconsistencies
  • Context on any recent credit applications
  • Your main goal for your credit

Never send sensitive information through unauthorized channels. During the process we will let you know the appropriate way to provide the documents that are needed.

Not everything is solved with a dispute

Improving how you manage your credit often involves more than correcting possible reporting errors. Day-to-day credit habits can also play an important role, so these are some of the areas we may review with you.

  • Balances reported on your revolving accounts
  • Utilization relative to your available limits
  • Making payments on time
  • How often you apply for new credit
  • The age of your credit history
  • Managing your existing accounts responsibly

In many cases, working toward a stronger credit profile involves addressing possible reporting errors while making more deliberate decisions about how credit is used. There is no single action that guarantees a particular credit outcome, so each step should be considered in the context of your situation.

Your strategy should have a goal

Working on credit without a concrete goal makes it hard to prioritize. Knowing where you are headed lets us decide which steps make sense first.

Alemay Business does not guarantee that a financial institution will approve an application: that decision always belongs to the creditor.

  • Organize your credit profile
  • Build history when it is still limited
  • Prepare before applying for financing
  • Understand why you were declined
  • Review negative information appearing on your reports
  • Get better control of your credit card utilization
  • Regain stability after financial difficulties
  • Prepare for a future goal, such as a car or a home
